The network of Cités

La Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis project was initiated within the framework of UNESCO’s inscription of the "Gastronomic meal of the French" on its representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. La Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis is part of an official network of gastronomic Cités alongside Dijon, Lyon and Tours.

The Network of Gastronomic Cités is a unique way of transmitting and showcasing France’s gastronomic heritage. These new cultural facilities promote the skills, metiers and savoir faire of the culinary world, as well as increasing the availability of vocational training, encouraging research and innovation, and stimulating an appreciation of great food, along with the benefits of sharing an exceptional meal.

La Mission Française du Patrimoine et des Cultures Alimentaires (MFPCA) is the body that applied for and successfully obtained UNESCO’s inscription of the “Gastronomic meal of the French” on its representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity on November 16, 2010.

The MFPCA coordinates and pilots the Network of Gastronomic Cités. Alongside the French state, this federating body steers and secures the implementation of measures ensuring that the spirit and convention of the intangible cultural heritage list are adhered to.
