The 16th François Rabelais Meetings go digital
The 16th Rencontres (“Meetings”) François Rabelais will take place from January 22 to April 29, united under the theme “Gastronomy For All?"
One hundred per cent digital in 2021, for 16 years the Rencontres François Rabelais (named after the Renaissance writer) have been at the heart of a program of events organized by the European Institute of Food History and Cultures (IEHCA) and the University of Tours. The meetings aim to bring to a wider pubic the insights and theories of academics specialising in food, cooking and gastronomy.
For the IEHCA, "the “Gastronomy For All?” theme is inspired by the idea that gastronomy should be interpreted as “the act of eating well”. In short, eating and drinking high quality products in moderation. These include, among other things, products with elevated organoleptic properties, which delight the senses while respecting health and the environment and promoting a shared sense of wellbeing. The act of eating well cannot be reserved for an educated and wealthy elite: gastronomy must be accessible to everybody! It is a social, economic, political and cultural necessity."

March 18, 2021 from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Workshop “Gastronomy in fair trade groceries.”
March 26, 2021 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Workshop “Gastronomy in unexpected contexts.”
April 2, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Round table “Eating well for all, at what cost?”
April 13, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Round table “Food philanthropy past and present. Charity? Taste education? Gastronomy?”
April 27, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Round table “Gastronomy for vulnerable audiences.”
April 29, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Round table “Is gastronomy an option for toddlers? "
